He graduated from the Law Department of Kyoto University. He published his first novel, L\u2019Ecripse (\u65e5\u8755), on one of the most authoritative literary magazine, Shinch? (\u65b0\u6f6e) , in 1999 and won the 120th Akutagawa Prize. Since then, he has produced many works, the translations of which are available in various languages, various countries. He published novels, such as Funeral (\u846c\u9001), Ripples the Dripping Clocks Make (\u6ef4\u308a\u843d\u3061\u308b\u6642\u8a08\u9054\u306e\u6ce2\u7d0b), Collapse (\u6c7a\u58ca), Dawn (\u30c9\u30fc\u30f3), and The Only Form of Love (\u304b\u305f\u3061\u3060\u3051\u306e\u611b), and also a book of essays, Monologue (\u30e2\u30ce\u30ed\u30fc\u30b0), and interviews, Dialogue (\u30c7\u30a3\u30a2\u30ed\u30fc\u30b0).
