Join Genbei Yamaguchi 10th Generation of Kondaya kimono and obi artisan, Kyoto & Yusuke Nakanishi KYOTOGRAPHIE’s Co-Founder and Co-Director as they discuss the need to maintain tradition while welcoming evolution in artistry, sharing their unique perspective on tradition and innovation. During this event they will introduce exquisite fabric from the Yamaguchi family collection. This event is in connection with Yamaguchi’s exhibition “Essence of Japan” held in the same venue.<\/div><\/div>\n

Genbei Yamaguchi<\/h5>\n

Kondaya Genbei is a long-established manufacturer and purveyor of obi with a history of 280 years. The current head of the company is the tenth-generation Yamaguchi Genbei. A formidable innovator who uses the skills passed down to him through the generations, he has introduced many new products into the world of kimono.
\nHis insight about the creation is always go back and forth between ancient Japan and future Japan. He lives in a tradition but what he does is quite avant-garde.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

Yusuke Nakanishi<\/h5>\n

Born in 1968, Yusuke Nakanishi is a lighting artist who travels the world, and expresses his impressions of light and shadow from his memories. He has worked as a lighting director for feature films, stages, music concerts, fashion shows and Interior designs. He also created the Eatable Lights object series, and has exhibited installations at the Hara Museum, the School Gallery Paris, and Nuits Blanche Kyoto. He has founded KYOTOGRAPHIE International Photography Festival with Lucille Reyboz from 2013.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n
